A Biodiversity BC steering committee was formed in 2005 to develop the provincial biodiversity strategy. The committee comprises representatives of conservation non-government organizations (NGOs) and the provincial, federal, and local governments. The scope of the strategy includes the full range of land and freshwater biodiversity in B.C., including species such as salmon and seabirds that also spend time in the ocean environment. The intent of the strategy is to provide a roadmap of priorities for NGOs, industry, governments including First Nations, and everyone else with an interest in conserving B.C.’s diverse natural wealth.
