The ecozones of Ontario extend into neighbouring jurisdictions and contribute to the diversity of ecosystems in Canada. Reflecting the shared responsibility for biodiversity in Canada, federal, provincial, and territorial governments partnered to assess the health of Canada’s major terrestrial and marine ecozones for the base year of 2010.
This first national assessment of Canada’s ecozones, referred to as the Ecosystem Status and Trends Report (ESTR) project, is not a single report, but rather a suite of related reports that culminate in a national highlights report titled Canadian Biodiversity: Ecosystem Status and Trends 2010.
