Le Conseil
Le Conseil de la biodiversité de l’Ontario a été créé en 2005 dans le processus de mise en œuvre de la première Stratégie de la biodiversité de l’Ontario. Ses membres représentent des groupes de protection de la nature et de l’environnement, des associations industrielles, des organismes autochtones, le monde universitaire et des organismes gouvernementaux.
Le Conseil de la biodiversité de l’Ontario, qui reconnaît l’importance de la diversité biologique, prend des mesures pour que celle-ci reste un rouage essentiel dans la construction d’un avenir prospère et écologiquement durable pour notre province. Le Conseil fait valoir que nos richesse, prospérité, qualité de vie et bien-être sont directement liés à la diversité biologique ou biodiversité de la province. Le Conseil reconnaît également qu’aucun gouvernement, organisme de conservation ou secteur ne peut amener à lui seul les changements à l’échelle requise pour réaliser la vision de la Stratégie de la biodiversité de l’Ontario. Conformément à la Stratégie 2005, le Conseil s’emploie à promouvoir et faire comprendre le message suivant : « La protection de la diversité de la vie sur Terre, et des êtres humains qui en font partie intégrante, nécessite un consensus social et la participation de tous. C’est un défi qui doit être relevé non par quelques-uns, mais par tous ».
